Employing Model-Based Reasoning in Socio-Environmental Synthesis (EMBeRS)

EMBeRS Events

The EMBeRS Project hosts workshops for faculty and researchers, typically one day to three days in length. We have worked for longer periods with specific research groups from our own and other institutions . These workshops train faculty on the role of model-based reasoning in interdisciplinary synthesis.

A key component of our NSF DGE IGE award was two intensive summer training experiences for PhD students, focused on the next generation research leaders. This training experience brought together Ph.D. students from different institutions and disciplines around specific sustainability and environmental science problems. The experience included training on a variety of teamwork issues in addition to training specific to the EMBeRS Framework. Students not only experienced teamwork with like-minded peers; they learned fundamentals for leading interdisciplinary teams.

Based on our successes with the Graduate PhD Workshops, we have run shorter student workshops in collaboration with several large interdisciplinary research projects. We have also developed a semester-long graduate course, as well as shorter units for a variety of undergraduate and graduate courses.
